What is Fertility Reflexology?
Fertility Reflexology is specifically aimed at hormone imbalances and conception issues.
It is most useful for couples who have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility and women who have been told they have hormone imbalances that are affecting their fertility.
If you fall into either category you’ll already know that the diagnosis can be very difficult to come to terms with. The medical world offers no real answers and stress and anxiety levels can soar. At best, the only course of action available is to try IVF which can be stressful, invasive and increasingly expensive. At worst, you are told there is nothing that can be done.
In these situations it can be worth taking a period of reflection before embarking on IVF. A healthy body with limited stress will be better placed to conceive and some time spent now focussed on your needs will certainly do no harm. Fertility Reflexology can play its part in this by balancing the body and hormones as much as is possible over a period of a few months.
In addition to the above, anyone who’s trying to conceive or wishing to get their body in peak condition before conceiving will benefit from some reflexology. You will still receive the hormone balancing aspect of the work and all the benefits that reflexology brings but over a less intense schedule than the one set out below.
What can Fertility Reflexology do for you?
It’s worth considering a course of Fertility Reflexology first if you’ve been offered IVF but have reservations about starting the process just yet. This will work on the body on two levels:
1 – to work specifically over key areas including the hormone reflexes to rebalance the physical body, and
2 – to calm the central nervous system. This will reduce the associated stress and anxiety that is almost certainly present and potentially making a sub fertile situation even worse.
However, balancing a body takes time and for women I advise having 8 to 10 sessions over a few months.
When there has been a diagnosis of unexplained fertility do not assume that it is only down to the woman. I always recommended that both partners have reflexology. For men, there is a little less going on in the body and so likely balance can be achieved a bit quicker. Therefore I advise slightly fewer sessions – 6 to 8 over the same timeframe.
Clearly this number of sessions involves a financial commitment, albeit significantly less than a self-funded IVF cycle. Every couple’s circumstances are different and only you can make the call. However I feel it would be unethical for me not to include this information within these pages so that you can make an informed choice. If you are keen to progress, I can reassure you that I have undertaken specialist training and have relevant experience in this field.
Regular therapy will always bring the best results but this is particularly true when trying to balance the body’s hormone system and keep it balanced.
What can you expect during a Fertility Reflexology session?
A Fertility Reflexology session is carried out in the same way as a normal reflexology session i.e. you sit back in a reclining chair while the reflex points of the feet are worked.
What makes these sessions different is that:
a) the focus of the session will be on the reflex points of the endocine system (the system of the body that is responsible for our hormone levels), and
b) the sessions include a lot of techniques to reduce stress and anxiety by calming the central nervous system.
In addition, we will discuss self-help techniques for lowering anxiety, tips for avoiding stressors and keeping those you can’t avoid to a minimum, as well as looking at diet, exercise and good sleep health.
